Mirena Bagur, MBA, Founder/President
Mirena Bagur founded the company in 2005. During business, marketing and communications experience in the high tech world, Mirena has counseled a wide variety of technology-inspired companies. In addition to executing marketing programs for clients, Mirena was the Course Co-Director of the joint Harvard-MIT Division of Health, Sciences, and Technology course about entrepreneurship in Healthcare and Life Sciences — HST.921 “Information Technology in the Health Care System of the Future”. In addition, Mirena is active in the entrepreneurial community, including The Capital Network, MIT Enterprise Forum, MassChallenge.
Prior to CONTeXO, Mirena was a senior vice president at Weber Shandwick, a leading global communications agency. She collaborated with emerging and enterprise companies to conceive and execute strategic marketing and PR programs. Mirena’s capabilities to grasp not only clients’ brand issues, but also understand the challenges associated with educating influencers on the adoption of complex concepts and technologies in business environments, translated into leading roles in numerous technology and healthcare accounts. She led teams that thoughtfully coordinated programs with strategic partners, led communications campaigns for industry analyst firms, and was chosen to lead national-level initiatives designed to elevate Weber Shandwick’s brand and to increase visibility in new markets (start-ups and healthcare businesses, boomers’ market) resulting in numerous referrals and revenue increase.
Mirena holds an MBA in economics and international business from the University of Zagreb/School of Economics, Croatia, and has completed a strategic business leadership program at Columbia University.
Win Burke, Partner
Win Burke joined the company in 2008. Win has an extensive background in multi-national and US high tech company operations in product development and product management, marketing, sales, corporate development/M&As and general management. In addition to his work with CONTeXO, Win is a Project Mentor for the joint Harvard-MIT Division of Health, Sciences, and Technology course HST.921 “Information Technology in the Health Care System of the Future”.
Win has been in executive management roles with a number of high tech companies, including as CEO of both a startup and a public software company, and has a great deal of experience managing companies through critical phases of corporate and business development, including exits via M&A and IPO, and the acquisition of competitors in a roll-up strategy. Win was CEO of Incentive Targeting for 3 years (sold to Google), and currently serves as CEO of iGetBetter, his 7th early stage company.
Before joining CONTeXO, Win was VP of Sales of the North American subsidiary of Israeli-based Orbotech, a $400+M vendor of image-processing-based capital equipment for the PCB industry, and a co-founder and CEO of the startup CanyonBridge (now Bungee Labs), a vendor of Web 2.0 application development and deployment platforms, through its initial business development and fund-raising phases. Previously, Win led ViryaNet, serving as its VP of Marketing, EVP of Corporate Development and CEO, and managed the company through its initial growth, IPO and achievement of profitability.
Win’s experience with early stage software companies began as VP of Sales & Marketing at Oberon Software. He subsequently led a number of M&A activities, including the acquisition by Applix of TM1 Software. Win served as the VP of Strategic Alliances and Channels for Gentia Software, and later joined ViewSoft as VP of Sales & Marketing, where he successfully engineered the acquisition of ViewSoft by Citrix.
Following his training as an EE/Computer Scientist at MIT, Win began his career as a software engineer at MIT Draper Labs, MIT Lincoln Labs and Data General. He moved into product management, product marketing and sales at Prime Computer, Apollo Computer and Wang Labs.
Win is a PSIA certified part-time ski instructor at Loon Mountain in New Hampshire.
Amie Dehner, Executive Consultant
Amie Dehner joined the CONTeXO team in 2008 bringing more than 25 years of experience in journalism and communications and marketing fields. Amie has created, managed and implemented communications programs for clients in the high technology and consumer electronics sectors ranging from start-ups to multi-national corporations.
Amie served as public relations program manager for Xerox Corporation’s Production Systems Group’s Supplies Business Unit. Before her tenure with Xerox, Amie focused exclusively on written communications, serving as the primary strategic and business writer for clients that included Onset Technologies, Inc., Elance, Inc., and Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products.
During her career, Amie has held senior management level positions at FitzGerald Communications and Hill and Knowlton, where her clients included Boole & Babbage Software, Excel, BBN, GeoTel Communications, Digital Communications, numerous business groups within Xerox Corporation and myriad others.
Amie’s earlier experience includes working at Ingalls Associates in its public relations division, The Strayton Corporation and Grey Strayton, International. She has also served as a sales account manager in the Systems Software Division of Computer Associates and as a staff reporter for The Newington Town Crier.
Ms. Dehner graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications.
Kathleen Keating, Executive Consultant
Kathleen joined CONTeXO in 2008. She has more than 18 years of high-tech public relations and marketing communications experience in both corporate and agency environments.
Most recently, Kathleen spent five years at IBM where she drove global media relations efforts for the company’s WebSphere/SOA initiatives resulting in extensive press coverage while helping IBM earn the leadership position in a highly competitive market. In this role, she was also involved in driving advocacy initiatives with academia, non-profits and industry associations as well as editing and contributing to industry books published by IBM Press.
Prior to IBM, Kathleen managed public relations efforts for infrastructure management software provider Concord Communications where she led communications campaigns in the U.S. and internationally.
Before joining Concord, she was an account director at Weber Shandwick for seven years where she managed accounts that spanned start ups, mid-sized companies and large organizations such as Nexaweb, SAS Institute, Gateway, Kodak, Avaya, ConEdison, GiantLoop Network, and Vanguard Managed Solutions. Kathleen was also involved in new business development efforts as well as training and development of staff.
She has guided small businesses on public relations strategy, led communications efforts for mergers & acquisitions, and has fostered strong relationships with journalists, analysts, and industry influencers.
As a published author, Kathleen has written bylines for the Boston Globe and has ghostwritten more than 75 executive bylines. Additionally, Kathleen is an adjunct faculty member at her alma mater Emerson College, where she currently teaches Principles of Public Relations.
Jack McAvoy, Executive Consultant
Jack McAvoy joined the CONTeXO team in 2009, bringing more than 25 years’ experience in high-technology marketing, operating at both the strategic and tactical levels. His skills include: corporate messaging, communications (public relations, analyst relations), product marketing, business development, demand generation, market research and segmentation, and competitive profiling. Jack is currently a VP/communications at PTC. Prior to that, he was a Research Director at the Aberedeen Group, where he managed and grew Aberdeen’s strategic services practice, overseeing a team of analysts, developing a commercially successful research agenda, personally publishing dozens of successful reports, and providing on-demand strategic advice and critical insights to help technology leaders, customer companies, and investment firms make better go-to-market decisions.
Prior to Aberdeen, Jack served as the CMO of ViryaNet, a provider of software solutions for the field service sector. There, Jack directed the worldwide marketing and communications effort, and had responsibility for all communications, prospect development, and product marketing. Previously, Jack began the marketing department, from the ground up, at Pegasystems, and initiated programs that directly affected the company’s dramatic growth. Jack’s earlier experience included senior marketing positions at Wang Laboratories and Computer Associates.
Jack holds a masters degree in marketing from Lesley College, and a bachelors degree in economics from Merrimack College.
